I enjoyed the rich world-building in this story. The ecology of the ice world and the unique culture of the Paralans were well developed and fit together. The kidnapping mystery also kept me turning pages until the end, with non-stop action. This book kept me guessing whodunnit until the very end. The science also stayed consistent and based on realistic premises without getting too technical. In the end, it’s the relationship of the two main characters and learning to understand their cultural differences that drives the story. I would compare it to other science fiction novels like Joan Slonczewski’s Door Into Ocean.
