So I was having so much fun with NaNoWriMo that I only took last week off from writing, and I’m actually back to the same pace again. Book 2 of The Fae of Calaveras County, Witch Hunt, is only a first draft right now, and I’m setting that aside to cool before I start revision, but I have a lot of ideas about how the series is going to finish. I debated do a side story, but why not use the momentum that I’ve got going? That means I’m writing book 3 right now, with the working title Witch Gate.
Of course, any changes that I make to book 2 during revision will have a ripple effect going forward to book 3, so I could be setting myself up for a lot of editing work in the future to track across three different novels at the same time. Yikes. Because of this I’m not sure if I should share anything from book 3 yet, like I did with book 2 (which is still up on Wattpad if you want to read it).
But if you tell me that you want to read book 3’s rough first draft, knowing that things can be subject to change without warning between now and the final version, I’ll start posting chapters. I have four done so far and I am still crazy in love with this story. I’ve gone even more insane by adding a third POV. Now it’s Rosa, her mom, and her sister Akasha (because all of them are going to be doing very different things in this book!). Because of the extra twistiness in this novel, it may turn out to be longer than the first two–we’ll see when I get farther along.
In other writerly news, I’m delaying the short stories from Wyld Magic because of a lack of cover art. They are coming soon, I just don’t know exactly when. Some may come out before A Flight of Marewings (which is still releasing January 6 unless there’s a major disaster between now and then), and some may come after, but I’ll try to space them out a bit. There is a wonderful artist who is working on all four of them right now (I’ve seen sketches and two half-finished pieces, and I am drooling), and I can’t wait to show them to you!
Speaking of art, I am looking to hire a professional artist to do the whole trilogy for Fae of Calaveras County. That means a new cover for Small Town Witch (and I’ll probably do some interior formatting updates), plus pretty covers when I release Witch Hunt and Witch Gate sometime in 2014. (Yes, my ambitious New Year’s resolution is to have both books published within the next year! Watch for updates!) My first book cover was done by me and a friend, and it’s cute, but not really professional quality. As I get more confident in this self-publishing venture, I’m excited to see my books come out looking their best. I’m proud of my writing and I think it deserves a nice picture to represent it. Since I’m not an artist, that means finding other talented individuals who will help me achieve my vision.
I am so excited for the year to come. 2013 was the first time I ever published anything, and Small Town Witch was an adventure to create. Now in 2014, I am already planning on several short stories, plus three novels! It’s going to be busy!
